Have you ever wanted to know the mechanics behind growing a garden? Maybe you just want to learn how to grow tomatoes in the Pacific Northwest, or you want to find the best seeds for your area. South Sound Seed Stewards offers a program that informs on a variety of different garden topics, from the mechanics of a plant to choosing the right seed to plant. The group consists of seasoned professionals and beginning hobbyists. They meet the second Monday of each month at the Yelm Adult community center.
April's meeting spotlighted bees, and we had a guest speaker from the Lewis County Bee Keeper Association that gave a splendid overview of keeping bees. We also learned the parts of a seed and the difference between determinate and indeterminate seeds.
For those new to growing, it's like having a full college credit course in botany over the space of the year.The SSSS also hosts a picnic full of good food and fellowship in July and a round table discussion for sharing ideas (and seed stories) in the fall
